Over the past month, I have mentioned how this one class is my favorite class and this other one is my favorite class. Now that I just completed this class, I cannot really say for sure which class is my favorite class because this class was just “off the chain.”
I like this class because it gave me more insight for my company and what exactly to do in regard to protecting my business. I did not realize that there was a lot of protection required for my company to remain valid in a competitive market. I was aware of a few, like copyrights and such, but I was not aware of Cyber Law, what to do in order to prevent security breaches and how fraudulent cyber activities could be really bad for my business.
I also was not aware of how many things to put into consideration that would prevent legal liabilities. I never thought “Assault and Battery” could come to play as a legal liability for a company situated in the music industry. We hear of how certain celebrities act, but never think of how the actions of these celebrities reflect on the company, so in cases like bad behavior, the company must find a way to curb bad behavior.
My favorite part of this class was learning about music law and contract review because, not only is it along my line of business, but it also gave me an insight on what to do when it is time to draft my own contract, the right terms to use for the contract, and how to make the contract favorable to all parties involved.
I liked that I was always a step ahead and with that, could strike a dialogue with the Course Director. I liked that the professor was well grounded in her expertise and I liked that she took time to answer questions no matter what angle your question came from.
I plan on applying all the things I learned in this class to my business when it comes to copyright registration, trademark registration, drafting a contract and creating a website for my company. I plan on preventing as much legal liabilities for my company, I do not want too much information about the company to be available to the public, and I plan on being extra careful with the artists I sign to the label, because reputation is very valuable to me and I do not want to be brought around negative lime light.
In summary, this was amazing class and I appreciate every session held for this class. Thank you, Cassi. You are a Rockstar!
